Maryland native Alana J didn't grow up wanting to be a makeup artist. Though as a young girl she was intrigued while playing in her mother's makeup, she had dreams of becoming an actress. She spent her freshman year at Hampton University as a Theater Arts major, volunteering for many of the theatre productions. It was during this time she recognized her passion for makeup, and used her time volunteering as an opportunity to learn makeup techniques for the stage.
Alana began experimenting with the faces of her on-campus friends to hone her makeup application skills, and eventually became known as the residential MUA. She returned home after her studies and secured a job with MAC Cosmetics, where she grew technically proficient and versatile, and began to develop her own style. After two years with the company, she decided to venture out on her own. Since doing so, Alana J has assisted noted industry artists including Reggie Wells, Oslyn Holder, Victoria Stiles, Mizu and Lottie Standard; she has participated in numerous Mercedes Benz Fashion Week events as an assistant to key makeup artists. She is currently hard at work building her client list, which already boasts the likes of the Baltimore Ravens Cheerleaders, Fox News Network and the Nancy Grace Show.
Alana J provides makeup for celebrities, events, fashion shows, advertising, commercial and editorial print, and is available to travel locally and internationally. She divides her time between New York City and Washington, DC.
